Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News two year later. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. She reported on a variety of noteworthy stories including weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell went on numerous trips together with President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
